Steve Adams
Athletics Facility/Event Manager - 2nd year

Adams was hired as Cornell College’s Athletics Facility and Event Manager on Nov. 7, 2016.

Adams brings to the Hilltop 22 years of athletic administrative experience. He served the past 12 years as athletic director at Maine South High School. Adams provided leadership for 29 sports and over 120 coaches during his time in Park Ridge, Ill., where he also organized and chaired several facility renovations.

“While interviewing for this position, I was overwhelmed by the passion the staff and student-athletes on the committee displayed for the athletic programs at Cornell College,” Adams said. “It was certainly the deciding factor for me to accept the position. I feel extremely humbled that the committee chose me.”

In his new position, Adams will be responsible for all aspects of the college’s athletic facility use and management of athletic events and competitions.

Adams was a member of multiple committees with the Illinois Athletic Directors Association, including registration chair and conference chair. He was president of the conference’s Central Suburban League.

Maine South hosted several Illinois High School Association (IHSA) state and postseason competitions under Adams’ guidance. He served on the IHSA sportsmanship committee as well. 

Adams was boys athletic director and mathematics teacher at Prospect (Ill.) High School from 1994-2004. He also took on assistant coaching duties for boys golf and boys basketball.

Adams held previous positions teaching mathematics and coaching in Illinois high schools at Elk Grove (1994-98), Prospect (1985-88) and Lanark (1983-84). He worked in a similar role at Gladbrook (Iowa) High School (1984-85).

Adams earned an associate’s degree from Iowa Central Community College (1980) and a bachelor’s in mathematics from the University of Northern Iowa (1982). He received a master’s in mathematics from Northeastern Illinois University (1992), and then a master’s in education administration from Northern Illinois University (1994).

Adams became a certified athletic administrator in 1999.

Adams and his wife, Brenda, have three grown children: Shane, Broomfield, Colo.; Cody, Chicago, Ill.; and Kylie, Iowa City.
