MOUNT VERNON – Cornell junior softball pitcher Jackie Sernek and senior baseball shortstop Zach Rogers have been recognized by the Midwest Conference for their record-setting efforts on the diamond this past week.

Sernek was named the MWC Softball Pitcher of the Week, her third such honor of the season. Rogers was selected MWC Baseball Performer of the Week for the fourth time this spring.

Sernek, of Chicago, Ill., was dominant in the circle with a 3-1 record and a 0.82 earned run average in six appearances. She tossed a pair of shutouts and struck out 40 batters in 34 innings.

Sernek notched a school-record fifth shutout of the season in Wednesday's 4-0 home win over 10th-ranked Coe, followed by a five-inning no-hitter in Saturday's 14-0 rout at Knox. The right-hander then fired all 10 innings in Sunday's 3-1 Game 1 win at Illinois College, which clinched a berth in the MWC Tournament.

Sernek is 10-3 on the season with a 1.70 ERA. She has 100 strikeouts in 94.2 innings.

Rogers, a Cedar Rapids Washington graduate, continued his All-America caliber campaign, sporting a .481 batting average (13-of-27) and 1.000 slugging percentage with 17 RBIs in seven games last week. The team's No. 3 hitter collected three doubles, a triple and three home runs, including a grand slam Saturday in Cornell's 7-5 Game 1 win at Illinois College.

Rogers set program records for most triples (7) and RBIs (49) in a season. He's within striking distance of a few more single-season marks, needing five runs, five hits and 14 total bases to take over the top spot in those categories.

Rogers is the MWC leader in virtually every offensive statistic: batting average (.480), slugging percentage (.821), on-base percentage (.549), runs (38), hits (59), RBIs (49), triples (7), home runs (6) and total bases (101). He's recorded 19 multi-hit games, nine of which included at least three hits.

The softball team (18-14 overall, 9-6 MWC) hosts Wartburg (4-28) at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the regular-season finale at Mount Vernon Softball Complex. Cornell opens MWC Tournament play at 12 p.m. Friday against North Division champion St. Norbert in De Pere, Wis.

The Ram baseball team (10-21 overall, 5-7 MWC) carries postseason hopes into this weekend's four-game series with Monmouth (7-23, 3-9 MWC). Saturday's doubleheader starts at 12 p.m. in Mount Vernon. The teams play two more Sunday at 12 p.m. in Monmouth, Ill.
