DECORAH – The Cornell men's 4x100 relay notched its third title in as many outdoor meets and freshman Katie Gilbert won the women's triple jump to highlight Saturday's performances at Luther College's Norse Relays at Carlson Stadium.
The Rams placed fifth in the eight-team men's field with 47 points. The Cornell women also took fifth, scoring 49 points.
The 4x100 unit of sophomores Brennan Stine, Preston Ritchie, senior Marnel Desir and freshman anchor Ra'Shad Green remained unbeaten this outdoor season. They posted a winning time of 44.31 seconds to edge the runner-up team from Ashford (44.37).
Green added a runner-up showing in the high jump (5-10). Teammate Brad Cox cleared 5-6 for third.
On the women's side, Gilbert gave the Rams 10 points with the triple jump title. She posted a mark of 33-10.25 to beat Augustana's Samantha Bazely by 1.5 inches.
Gilbert was on the 4x100 relay that finished second in 52.55. The group included freshman leadoff leg Mariah Brandly, sophomore Ty Person and freshman anchor Brianna Meeks. Person recorded her best outdoor mark (16-6.5) in the long jump and placed second.
The women's 1600 sprint medley relay of Elsie Freland, Clare McCarthy, Emily Haefner and Laura Wetzel took third in 4:51.55. The Rams were fourth in the 4x800 relay (10:06.28), which featured Leslie Smebak, Sanjuanita Martinez, Hannah Garvey and Laura Ettlin.
Coming up – The Rams compete in the University of Dubuque Open Saturday, April 20, in Dubuque.
