MOUNT VERNON – Cornell senior Garrett Russikoff has been named Midwest Conference Men's Tennis Performer of the Week for the period ending Feb. 10.
Russikoff, of Stevenson Ranch, Calif., registered his 99th career victory during a perfect 4-0 individual performance Saturday in Jacksonville, Ill. The Rams scored dual wins over host Illinois College (9-0) and Webster (6-3).
Russikoff collected two wins at the No. 2 slot in the singles lineup. He rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Illinois College's Joshua Kuehn, and then posted a 6-3, 7-6 (2) win over Agustin Villalba of Webster.
Russikoff teamed with Tyler Shonkwiler for identical 8-2 wins at No. 1 doubles in Cornell's first dual action of the season.
Russikoff, 5-2 on the season, boosted his career record to 99-76. He passed Kevin Wagner (95 wins, 1998-01) for second place on the program's all-time wins list.
Russikoff shoots for his 100th win on Feb. 23, when the Rams host a double dual with St. Ambrose and Ripon. Austin Reed (109 wins, 1999-02) is the only men's tennis player in school history to reach the milestone.
