MOUNT VERNON – The late Dale Brand, a two-time All-American at Cornell College, is among five former NCAA wrestling champions who will be inducted into the Glen Brand Wrestling Hall of Fame of Iowa.

The Class of 2013 includes Joe Heskett, Troy Steiner, Terry Steiner, Kirk Myers and Brand. A banquet honoring all award winners will be held at Sunnyside Country Club on June 9 in Waterloo.

Brand became Cornell's first-ever NCAA wrestling champion in 1937, claiming the Division I crown at 126 pounds. He was national runner-up at 134 pounds in 1936.

Brand served as an alternate on the 1936 Olympic wrestling team that competed in Berlin, Germany.

Brand compiled a 252-76-2 dual meet record as head coach at Clarion High School from 1946-76. He coached 23 individual state champions and six runner-up teams.

Brand's most famous wrestler at Clarion was Glen Brand, 1948 Olympic champion and namesake of the Glen Brand Wrestling Hall of Fame of Iowa. Dale and Glen were first cousins.

Dale Brand passed away in 2004 at the age of 90.

Brand joins an exclusive group of Cornellians in the Hall of Fame, including legendary coach Paul K. Scott and his 1947 wrestling team, which won both NCAA and AAU championships that year.

The Glen Brand Wrestling Hall of Fame of Iowa was established in 2002 to honor the people who have made an impact on the sport on a national level, or who have done extraordinary work in Iowa. The Hall recognizes native-born Iowans, and those who achieved their fame while wrestling or coaching for an Iowa school.
