MOUNT VERNON – Cornell senior forward Camille Marie has been named the Midwest Conference Women's Basketball Performer of the Week for the period ending Jan. 28.
Marie climbed into 14th place on the MWC's all-time scoring list Saturday with a 22-point performance against Ripon. In 89 career games, the Marion native has totaled 1,305 points, most among active players in the conference.
Marie averaged 21.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and shot 67.9 percent (19-of-28) from the field in guiding the 21st-ranked Rams (17-1 overall, 12-1 MWC) to a pair of lopsided wins in league play. The 6-foot-2 Marie scored nearly one point (42) per minute played (44) last week.
Marie, the program's all-time scoring leader, made 10-of-15 field goals for a game-high 22 points in Cornell's 106-66 victory over Knox Wednesday. She tossed in 20 points behind 9-of-13 shooting in Saturday's 69-38 rout of Ripon, which entered the game on a five-game winning streak.
Marie has scored in double figures in each of her last seven games. She stands sixth in the MWC in field goal percentage (51.8) and ninth in free throw percentage (76.6). Marie averages 12.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
The Rams hold a two-game lead in the league race over Monmouth, which they already beat twice this season. Cornell has five MWC games remaining in the regular season.
Cornell is back in action Saturday, Feb. 2 for a 3 p.m. road game against Carroll (8-7, 7-5 MWC) in Waukesha, Wis. The Rams are shooting for a school-record tying 18th win.
