
MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's wrestling team remained at No. 18 in this week's National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Poll, led by a pair of highly-ranked individuals in Alex Coolidge and Trevor Engle.
Coolidge climbed one spot to No. 2 in his 197-pound weight class. The junior is the team leader in wins with an 18-3 record. Coolidge is coming off a runner-up finish (4-1) at the Citrus Invitational Dec. 29-30 in Fort Lauderdale by the Sea, Fla.
Engle broke into the rankings for the first time, vaulting to No. 4 at 149 pounds. The freshman is 17-4 on the season with a team-high five major decisions. Engle went 5-1 to place third at the Citrus Invitational.
Cornell is ranked 18th in the team poll for the second consecutive release. The Rams (5-2) had a solid performance in Florida, taking third in the 12-team tournament with eight placewinners.
The Rams return to competition Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Flannagan Open in Dubuque. Cornell hosts its annual Matman Invitational on Jan. 19.
