MOUNT VERNON – Brent Brase's Cornell women's basketball team continues its rise in the NCAA Division III rankings, now rated in the Top 25 of two national polls.
The Rams (12-0 overall) jumped two spots to No. 21 in this week's D3hoops.com Women's Top 25. Cornell received 123 votes, just three behind 20th-ranked Lebanon Valley.
Cornell entered the USA Today Sports Division III Top 25 Coaches' Poll Tuesday for the first time in school history, standing at No. 23. The Rams totaled 35 votes, after earning two in the previous poll Dec. 18.
The Rams are among 13 remaining unbeatens in Division III women's basketball, including the only team in the state. Cornell ranks sixth nationally in rebound margin (+12.9 rpg), ninth in field goal percentage (44.8) and 17th in assists (16.9 apg).
Sophomore center Taylor Dicus remains the Division III leader in field goal percentage (65.6). Junior Chelsea Harris ranks fourth in assist/turnover ratio (+2.85 pg). Rikki Mulloy's 89.7 percent free throw percentage (35-of-39) stands 14th.
The Rams returned from a two-week holiday break Saturday to claim a 74-66 road win over Lake Forest. The win moved the team to 7-0 in the Midwest Conference, one game ahead of St. Norbert at 6-1.
Cornell plays host to Grinnell (5-6, 4-3 MWC) at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9 in the Small Multi-Sport Center. Mediacom (MC22) will broadcast the game, which will air on tape-delay at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10.
