LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Sophomore Rikki Mulloy netted 14 of her game-high 22 points in the second half as the 23rd-ranked Rams reeled off their school-record 12th win in a row, 74-66, over host Lake Forest in Midwest Conference play Saturday.
Cornell (12-0 overall) topped the 70-point mark for the sixth time this season and moved to 7-0 in MWC play, one game ahead of St. Norbert at 6-1.
The Rams used a 21-4 spurt to build a seemingly comfortable 39-22 lead late in the first half. Lake Forest (5-7, 3-4 MWC) cut the margin to 41-30 at halftime and eventually grabbed the lead at 53-52 with 12:36 remaining.
Cornell responded by scoring 11 of the next 12 points to regain control at 63-54 with 7:02 to go. Mulloy had six points during the decisive run, which included a 3-pointer by Chelsea Harris, two Maggie Hogen free throws and a Camille Marie layup.
The Rams put the game away with four Mulloy free throws in the final minute. She finished 8-of-9 from the line and shot 6-of-16 from the field.
Freshman forward Kellie Kuzmanic had another fine game for the Rams, collecting 17 points, seven rebounds and a pair of assists. She knocked down 4-of-7 shots from 3-point range.
Marie pitched in 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting to go with six rebounds. Harris had nine points and Hogen six rebounds, both coming off the bench. Kathryn Schilling delivered a team-best four assists.
The Rams connected on 10-of-20 3-point goals and went 20-of-26 from the foul line. Cornell owned a 38-26 advantage on the boards, helping offset 19 turnovers.
Coming up – The Rams are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 9 to face Grinnell (5-6, 4-3 MWC) at 5 p.m. in Mount Vernon. The Pioneers are coming off a 60-46 loss Saturday at Carroll.
