MOUNT VERNON – Cornell sophomore guard Rikki Mulloy has been named Midwest Conference Women's Basketball Performer of the Week for the period ending Dec. 23.
Mulloy, of Phoenix, Ariz., averaged 20.5 points and hit 7-of-15 3-point goals in leading the unbeaten Rams (11-0 overall, 6-0 MWC) to a pair of conference wins last week. She made 6-of-7 free throws and collected 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
Mulloy netted a season-high 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the floor in Cornell's 75-56 home rout of Illinois College Dec. 19. She then led the Rams to a big 64-60 road win Saturday over 23rd-ranked and previously-unbeaten Monmouth. Mulloy nailed five 3-pointers against the Fighting Scots and finished with 17 points, four assists and a pair of steals.
Mulloy is averaging 13.3 points on the season with a team-best 21 3-point goals. She leads the MWC in free-throw shooting at a 90.0-percent clip (27-of-30). Mulloy ranks fifth in the league in 3-point percentage (36.2) and sixth in 3-pointers made (1.9 pg).
The Rams, alone atop the MWC standings, return from a two-week holiday layoff Jan. 5 to play league foe Lake Forest (4-4, 2-3 MWC) at 3 p.m. in Lake Forest, Ill. Cornell plays host to Grinnell (4-5, 3-2 MWC) at 5 p.m. Jan. 9 in the Small Multi-Sport Center.
Coach Brent Brase's club has beaten opponents by an average margin of 18.3 points per game. The Rams are among the national leaders in rebound margin at +13.3 a contest.
