MOUNT VERNON - Cornell sophomore center Taylor Dicus
has been named the Midwest Conference Women's Basketball Performer of the Week for the period ending Dec. 9.
Dicus, a Mount Vernon High School graduate, averaged 16.5 points and 11.5 rebounds while shooting a sizzling 76.5 percent (13-of-17) from the field in leading the undefeated Rams (7-0 overall, 3-0 MWC) to a pair of conference road wins.
Dicus delivered 17 points and eight rebounds in an 80-60 rout of Knox Dec. 4 in Galesburg, Ill. The 6-foot-2 post canned 8-of-10 field goals and made her only free throw attempt.
Dicus followed up with a 16-point, 15-rebound performance Saturday, recording her first double-double of the season in a 68-54 victory over Lawrence. She went 5-of-7 from the floor, and 6-of-9 from the foul line.
Dicus enters the week as the NCAA Division III leader in field goal percentage, hitting at a 78.8 percent clip. She ranks third in the MWC in scoring with a team-high 14.7 points per game. Dicus also leads the Rams in rebounding at 8.4 boards per contest, good for sixth in the MWC.
The Rams, who received votes in two national polls last week, carry momentum into Tuesday's 6 p.m. home game against Carroll (3-3, 2-1 MWC) in the Small Multi-Sport Center. Cornell joins Monmouth (8-0, 4-0 MWC) as the lone remaining unbeatens in the MWC.
