DELAWARE, Ohio - Cornell College senior Madison Craw
placed 18th overall in the women's shot put Friday night at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
Craw, seeded 10th out of 24 qualifiers, posted a mark of 42 feet, 8.75 inches on her second of three preliminary attempts. She finished ninth in her flight and came up 14.5 inches shy of earning a berth in the finals.
Craw, a three-time national qualifier in the shot put, entered the meet as an All-America hopeful after launching a school-record outdoor toss of 45-7.75 set last weekend in Rock Island, Ill.
Craw also competed in the 2011 and 2009 indoor national meets. She is the fourth Ram under 11th-year head coach Lonnie Speidel to make three appearances at the NCAA track and field championships, joining Lynn Schneider, James Klobucar and Andy Stoecken.
UW-Oshkosh's Jecel Gerner claimed Friday's shot put title with a mark of 49-7. Holly Ozanich, also of UW-Oshkosh, finished second at 48-7.5.
