MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's women's soccer team netted a goal late, although couldn't overcome a tough Monmouth team, falling 2-1 at home Wednesday afternoon.

The Rams (2-10 overall, 1-3 MWC) tried to mount a comeback at the 71-minute mark when Sofia Schnur (SO/Redwood City, Calif.) found net off of a pass from Lindsay Smith (FR/Lake Villa, Ill.), but couldn't push any further against the Fighting Scots (7-5, 2-2 MWC).

Monmouth scored both of its goals in the second half and shut down the Rams late to secure the victory.

Seven Cornell players attempted shots on the afternoon with Schnur, Smith, and Layne Pullen (FR/Vail, Ariz.) each firing three apiece.

Raphaela Cogan (FR/Northfield, Minn.) made her first start in goal for Cornell and worked all 90 minutes. Cogan faced the MWC's top two players in attempted shots and recorded seven saves for the Rams.

Coming up – Cornell travels to Central College (9-1) on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff in Pella.
