Cornell falls short against 5-0 Gorloks

MOUNT VERNON – Cornell's women's soccer team ran into its second undefeated opponent in three days, dropping a 4-1 decision to Webster Friday afternoon at home.

The Gorloks (5-0) put pressure on the Rams (0-6) early with two goals in the opening 17 minutes, which proved big in the end as Cornell battled tough the rest of the way.

Junior Elisabeth Sage (JR/Denver, Iowa) put the Rams on the scoreboard in the 58th minute off an assist from Sofia Schnur (SO/Redwood City, Calif.), cutting the deficit to 3-1. Sage lofted a kick over the goalkeeper's head for her second goal of the season.

Webster added an insurance goal in the 84th minute to seal the win.

Cornell came out strong in the second half, attempting all 10 of its shots for the match. Lindsay Smith (FR/Lake Villa, Ill.) accounted for four shots, with Elizabeth Mombello (JR/Overland Park, Kan.) and Schnur each adding two.

Ram goalkeeper Nell Rosenthal (SO/Wheaton, Ill.) delivered three saves over 90 minutes. She faced 13 shots from the Gorloks.

Coming up – The Rams travel to Nebraska Wesleyan for a 1 p.m. kickoff Sunday in Lincoln, Neb.
