MOUNT VERNON – UW-Platteville entered Tuesday's volleyball match as one of the NCAA Division III leaders in kills.

The Rams were up to the challenge and show some offensive punch themselves with a 25-16, 25-15, 25-22 victory over the Pioneers inside the Small Multi-Sport Center. It was the season's sixth 3-0 sweep for national-votes getter Cornell, which improved to 8-2.

Cornell forced the Pioneers (7-3) into nearly as many hitting errors (21) as kills (22), while limiting the guests to a paltry .011 attack percentage.

The Rams totaled 41 kills for the night on efficient .297 hitting. Nicole Ciari (JR/San Jose, Calif.) led the charge, hitting .550 with 13 kills on 20 swings. Diamond Boyd (SR/Elk Grove Village, Ill.) smashed nine kills, Libby Schnoor (SR/Camanche, Iowa) eight.

Jillian Schulte (JR/Naperville, Ill.) handed out 31 assists to go with six digs. Libero Sydney Meeker (FR/Mount Vernon, Iowa) tallied a match-best 15 digs and served a pair of aces.

Ciari posted six total blocks, outdoing UW-Platteville's entire team. Barbie Becker (SO/Auburn, Wash.) chipped in two blocks and seven digs.

The Rams never trailed during the first two sets. They recovered from a 19-15 deficit in Set 3. A Ciari spike gave Cornell a 21-20 lead. After the Pioneers tied it at 21-21, a kill by Ciari and two from Boyd put the Rams over the top.

Coming up – Cornell travels to Cedar Rapids Friday to face rival Coe (4-4) for a 7:30 p.m. Bremner Cup match.
