No. 19 Rams sweep final two foes at Loras

DUBUQUE – The 19th-ranked Rams broke out the brooms Saturday, sweeping their final two volleyball foes at the Loras Invitational to finish 3-1 in the two-day tournament at Lillis Court.  

Cornell cruised past Hamline in the opener by scores of 25-15, 25-17, 25-21. The Rams then took care of Loras 25-21, 25-18, 25-23 for their third sweep of the weekend.

The Rams bumped their season record to 7-2 and junior setter Jillian Schulte (JR/Naperville, Ill.) came away with all-tournament honors for the second weekend in a row. Schulte accumulated 109 assists (9.08 aps) and 37 digs (3.08) in four matches, while posting a team-best .368 attack percentage.

Cornell held both Hamline (.041) and Loras (.062) well under .100 hitting in their respective matches. Freshman Sydney Meeker (FR/Mount Vernon, Iowa) had a big day in the back row with 34 total digs, including 18 against Loras (4-5).

Nicole Ciari (JR/San Jose, Calif.) hit .364 with 11 kills and five blocks against Hamline (3-7). Barbie Becker (SO/Auburn, Wash.) was an efficient .533 hitting with nine kills. Schulte finished with 29 assists, eight digs and three service aces in the Hamline match.

Newcomer Allison Eikenberry (FR/Neola, Iowa) totaled eight kills and four blocks against the host Duhawks. Cornell's balanced attack had Libby Schnoor (SR/Camanche, Iowa) with 10 kills, Ciari with nine and Diamond Boyd (SR/Elk Grove Village, Ill.) with six.

Schulte's double-double against Loras featured 31 assists and 11 digs.  

Coming up – Cornell returns home Tuesday to face UW-Platteville for a 7 p.m. nonconference match inside the Small Multi-Sport Center.
