MOUNT VERNON It was a tale of two halves in Saturday's matchup between the Cornell Rams and the visiting Rockford Regents, one which found the home team battling back in the second half for a 3-2 victory.

The first half of the match belonged to the Regents (0-3-1) who outshot the Rams 9-5.  The visiting team got on the board in the 21st minute of the match; scoring their goal on a well struck, well placed ball that sailed to the top left corner of Cornell's net.

But Rockford wasn't done yet, scoring again only seven minutes later, as they were able to take their 2-0 lead into half.

It was all Cornell (2-1) in the second half as they outshot the Regents 18-1. It took the Rams 74 minutes to finally score their first goal, which came when Ethan Berube (JR/Cottage Grove, Minn.) got on a breakaway and was taken down hard in the box.  Cornell was awarded a penalty kick on the play, which Pietro Amado (JR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) took full advantage of, kicking a hard grounder to the right side of the net, just outside the reach of the diving Regents goalie who had guessed correctly.  Amado's second goal of the season cut the lead in half, making things 2-1 with less than 14 minutes left to play.

Trailing 2-1 with only seven minutes left and one man down, the Rams faced an uphill battle.

Quite the opposite happened after the red card was given, as the Rams kicked things into a higher gear and went on the attack.  They scored their second goal of the match less than two minutes later when Michael Paquette (SR/Erie, Colo.) made a nice pass to Kean Johansen (JR/Minneapolis, Minn.) who did the rest, putting the ball past the Rockford keeper to tie things up at 2-2.

With less than a minute to go, Johansen broke to the net and received perfectly-placed through ball from Garrett Wicker (SO/Baldwin, Wis.).  The Cornell junior came in clutch, scoring his second goal of the match and propelling his team to the improbable win. The Rams were able to seal up their second victory of the season.

Coming up – Cornell travels to Mount Pleasant Wednesday to face Iowa Wesleyan for a 4:30 p.m. nonconference matchup.
