Women's Soccer - Fri, Sep. 8, 2017

DUBUQUE It was a tough night on the road for the Cornell women's soccer team, as they were defeated by Dubuque Thursday, 2-0.

The Rams (0-3) haven't been able to generate much offense this season, which is due in large part to graduating last year's leading scorer, Deidre Franzen. Thursday would be more of the same as Cornell's offense was only able to muster two total shots, only one of which was on goal.

Where Cornell's offense struggled, their defense stayed strong, holding Dubuque scoreless for the entire first half of the match.  Rams goalkeeper Nell Rosenthal (SO/Wheaton, Ill.) played a huge role in keeping the home team out of the net, collecting five saves in the first period of play, and eight total on the night.

The Spartans (2-1) were finally able to break through Cornell's defense in the second half, scoring their first goal in the forty-seventh minute of play.  The home team's second goal of the night came in the sixty-sixth minute, making the score 2-0 which is where it would remain until time expired.

Clara Garcia (JR/McMinnville, Ore.) was the lone player to take a shot on goal for Cornell.

Coming up – The Rams head to Deerfield, Ill. Saturday to take on Trinity International University at noon.
