PELLA –  Wednesday marked the first road match of the year for the Cornell men's soccer team, which came up short by a 3-0 score against Central College.

The Dutch (3-0) dominated on the offensive side of the ball, managing to take 26 shots, ten of which were on goal, compared to three taken by the Rams.

Cornell (1-1) got off to an unlucky start, when the Dutch scored an own goal in the 11th minute off a deflection from a Central corner kick.

The home team managed to kick in another goal seven minutes later to make the score 2-0, which is where the match would stand at the half.

Central's Aroni Niyikiza put another ball to the back of Cornell's net in the 48th minute, scoring his second goal of the match to make the score 3-0.

The goalkeepers for the Rams were kept busy throughout the match. Shaun Boerner (SR/Overland Park, Kan.) did his best to defend the goal in the first half and collected two saves, while Tom Gallagher (FR/Cincinnati, Ohio) was in the net for the second half and collected five saves.

Coming up – Cornell is at home against Rockford University Saturday for a noon start.
