MOUNT VERNON – What an opening stretch it's been for Cornell's 2017 volleyball team, now owner of the highest national ranking in program history.

Cornell charged into the ratings at No. 19 in Tuesday's AVCA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Rams (4-0) garnered 407 total points, this after not receiving a single vote in the preseason rankings.

Coach Jeff Meeker's Rams earned their place with four wins at last weekend's Bear Invitational in St. Louis, Mo. Cornell beat No. 3 Wash U. in four sets and swept No. 20 Hendrix, while also claiming wins over Webster (W, 3-0) and Dominican (W, 3-2).

The last time Cornell appeared in the national rankings was 2015, at No. 22. The Rams' highest previous ranking was No. 20 in the final 2014 poll.

The Rams look to continue their blazing start Wednesday night when they host Dubuque for the home opener. The varsity match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside the Small Multi-Sport Center.
