MOUNT VERNON The Cornell women battled it out with Edgewood College in Sunday's home opener, losing to the Eagles 1-0.

The Rams (0-2) played a tough game defensively, holding the visiting team scoreless for the first 26 minutes. The Eagles scored their only goal of the match on a penalty kick, after Cornell was called for an unfortunate penalty in the box.

Cornell's staunch defense was led by goalkeeper Nell Rosenthal (SO/Wheaton, Ill.), who collected seven saves on the day, a few of which were difficult plays to make.

Edgewood (1-1) put forth a tough defensive effort of its own, holding the Rams scoreless for the entire match. They also held Cornell to three total shots, only one of which was on goal.

Coming up – Cornell is on the road Thursday for a 7 p.m. match against the University of Dubuque.
