MOUNT VERNON – Coach Meredith Merce's Cornell women's lacrosse program has been recognized for academic performance by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association for the 2017 season.

Ram seniors-to-be Sydney Cooper (SR/Morton, Ill.) and Kayla Boyd (SR/Colorado Springs, Colo.) were named to the IWLCA Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll, comprised of 532 student-athletes from 159 institutions.

To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be a junior, senior or graduate student and have earned a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50.

The Rams also gained the distinction as an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad, joining 307 institutions across Division I, II, III and NAIA for the 2016-17 academic year. To qualify, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Cooper is a three-time Academic All-Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference selection and received honorable mention all-MWLC status on the field last spring. Cornell's career leader with 105 points, Cooper tallied team-highs this season with 39 goals, six assists, 54 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers.

Boyd, an academic all-MWLC performer as well, played in 13 matches for the Rams, starting 11. The defender finished with 10 ground balls and eight caused turnovers.
