GENEVA, Ohio – Charles Zilaitis (SR/Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.) made history this weekend as Cornell's only male athlete to compete in four NCAA track & field events in the same academic year.

Zilaitis' sensational senior season came to a close Saturday afternoon with a 12th-place effort in the men's hammer throw at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships at SPIRE Institute.

Zilaitis posted a mark of 176 feet, 10 inches on his second attempt in the prelims, but it was not enough to advance to the finals. The top-9 cutoff was 182-6.

Zilaitis entered as the No. 11 seed in the 20-man field with a school-record qualifying mark of 189-2.

Augustana's Marckus Simmons captured the event championship with a big toss of 202-1.

On Friday, Zilaitis took 16th in the shot put.

Zilaitis earned all-America indoor accolades in the shot put (sixth) and weight throw (eighth) in March. He carried momentum into this outdoor campaign, where he was tabbed Central Region and Midwest Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Year.

During a banner-filled 2017 indoor and outdoor season, Zilaitis captured a whopping 21 throwing titles, established three school records, claimed four all-region awards, earned six MWC Performer of the Week honors and gathered six all-conference medals with three MWC championships.
