MOUNT VERNON – The postseason baseball accolades are pouring in for Cornell junior slugger Walker Breard (JR/Washington, Iowa), who on Tuesday was pegged to the 2017 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Central Region First Team.

Earlier in the day, Walker earned second team all-region status by D3baseball.com. The Midwest Conference Player of the Year has collected a program-best five all-region awards through three record-setting seasons with the Rams.

Breard filled the first base position on the 15-player ABCA/Rawlings First Team. He joined 2013 all-American shortstop Zach Rogers as the only Rams to claim first team all-region baseball honors.

The three teams in each of the eight regions are voted on by members of the ABCA. The first team selections are nominated for all-America honors, which will be announced Thursday evening (May 25).

Breard landed on the ABCA/Rawlings Second Team in 2016 and 2015.

Breard, who batted a team-best .378 from the No. 3 hole, crushed the school record for walks in a season with 34, fifth-most in MWC history. The powerful lefty was hit by pitch eight times and compiled a .522 on-base percentage, good for No. 6 on Cornell's single-season list.

Breard also led the Rams in runs (36), hits (51), doubles (13), home runs (8), RBIs (38) and slugging percentage (.652). He had an 18-game hitting streak this spring and made just one error in 309 fielding chances.

Breard broke the program record for home runs in a career (28) and tied the all-time mark for RBIs (125). A career .368 batter, he enters his senior campaign with 145 hits in 107 games.

Breard helped guide the Rams (19-20 overall, 12-8 South Division) to their fourth consecutive appearance in the MWC Tournament. Cornell played 20 games against opponents who advanced to regionals or qualified for their respective conference tournaments.
