GRINNELL – Cornell's baseball season ended early Saturday afternoon with an 11-2 setback to a St. Norbert squad that went on to win the Midwest Conference Tournament at Pioneer Park.

The Rams, making their fourth straight postseason appearance, finished the spring at 19-20 overall. Both of the losses this weekend came against the Green Knights, including a 9-3 first-round decision Friday.

After eliminating the Rams, St. Norbert (30-11) beat Beloit by scores of 6-4 and 9-5 to earn the MWC's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Cornell grabbed an early 1-0 lead Saturday on Joe Orisek (SR/Yorkville, Ill.)'s two-out single that plated Keenan Bryant (FR/Fort Pierce, Fla.) in the bottom of the second inning. But St. Norbert came back with five runs in the top of the third and played ahead the rest of the game.

The Green Knights managed just two hits in the decisive third frame, although benefited from three walks. St. Norbert scored its runs on a sacrifice fly, a bases-loaded walk, a passed ball, a wild pitch and a groundout.

Junior Walker Breard (JR/Washington, Iowa) belted an opposite-field solo home run in the third that brought the Rams to 5-2. It was the 125th career run batted in for the South Division Player of the Year, who tied Chet Knake's all-time RBI record with his eighth round-tripper of the season.

St. Norbert stretched the margin to 7-2 in the fifth and tacked on four more runs in the final two innings. The Green Knights outhit Cornell, 12-6, and received a complete-game pitching outing from freshman Carson Jacques. St. Norbert capitalized on nine walks in the contest.

Orisek paced the Ram lineup with a pair of hits and an RBI. He was among 15 players in the senior class that accounted for 81 career wins, tying for the most in program history over a four-year span.
