GRINNELL – Cornell eliminated South Division champion Grinnell late Friday afternoon and now must go through two North Division teams Saturday to take the title at the Midwest Conference Baseball Tournament.

The Rams (19-19) stayed alive in the double-elimination tourney with a 15-7 rout of the host Pioneers, a game that saw John Tesensky (SR/Watertown, Wis.) become the program's all-time hits leader. Cornell fell 9-3 earlier in the day to North champion St. Norbert.

Cornell will get another crack at St. Norbert (27-11) in a 10 a.m. elimination game Saturday. The winner faces a hot Beloit squad (19-17-1) riding a 10-game winning streak at 1 p.m., and would need to beat the Buccaneers twice to claim the MWC's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Rams pounded out 15 hits against Grinnell, three coming off the bat of Tesensky who passed Beriah Quick (184 hits from 2012-15) atop Cornell's career hits list with a sharp single to center field in the third inning. Tesensky, a four-year starter and three-time all-MWC outfielder, has compiled 186 hits in 148 games as a Ram.

Prior to the Grinnell contest, Tesensky was recognized with the 2017 MWC Elite 20 Award, honoring the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average among the four competing teams in this weekend's tournament. The environmental studies major won the award for the second year in a row.

Tesensky finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and four runs scored, making him the sixth Cornell player to register 100 career runs. Shortstop Lucas Larson (SO/Palo, Iowa) also had a huge game against the Pioneers (20-16) with three hits and six RBIs, highlighted by a three-run homer in the fourth inning that gave Cornell a commanding 12-4 lead.

Cale Jamesson (FR/Keystone, Iowa) opened the scoring with a solo home run in Cornell's five-run second. Josh Dimmitt (SR/Fairfield, Iowa) delivered a two-run blast in the third, putting the Rams ahead 7-4.

Keenan Bryant (FR/Fort Pierce, Fla.) had three hits and three runs. Starting pitcher Eric Daubach (SR/Omaha, Neb.) (3-4) added two hits and earned the win on the mound, striking out five over 6.2 innings.

Friday morning in Newton, Cornell got off to a promising start against St. Norbert with a 3-1 lead through three innings. The Green Knights tied it in the fourth on a pair of unearned runs and pulled ahead with five tallies in the fifth frame.

Ram starter Andy Dodson (SR/Lone Tree, Iowa) (5-3) broke Charlie Muir's single-season record for innings pitched (78.0). The South Division Pitcher of the Year logged 7.1 innings in this game, his first setback against an MWC foe this season.

TJ Rausch (SR/Washington, Iowa) provided two of Cornell's five hits, including a solo home run in the third. Tesensky singled home two runs in the first.
