GRINNELL – A day after enduring two of their toughest losses of the spring, the Rams swept the same Grinnell squad by convincing scores of 18-5 and 7-3 in Sunday's regular-season finale at Pioneer Park to clinch a berth to the Midwest Conference Baseball Tournament.

Cornell (18-18 overall) is postseason bound for the fourth consecutive year after placing second in the South Division with a 12-8 mark. Grinnell (20-14, 13-7 MWC) finished one game ahead of Cornell in the division race and will host next weekend's four-team MWC Tournament.

The Rams play North Division champion St. Norbert (26-10, 15-2 MWC) Friday morning at a time and neutral site to be determined. Grinnell meets Beloit in Friday's other first-round game in Grinnell.

It was quite a bounce-back day for Coach Seth Wing's Rams, who roughed up the Pioneer pitching staff with 28 hits in the doubleheader, nine going for extra bases. Cornell's pitchers fired 11 shutout innings and received wins from starters Tyrus Hartman (SR/Lanark, Ill.) (5-3) and Caleb Wichman (SO/Crescent, Iowa) (3-0).

Walker Breard (JR/Washington, Iowa) powered the Rams to the Game 1 victory with a school-record eight RBIs. The junior slugger broke a 3-3 tie with a grand slam to right in Cornell's five-run fifth frame. Breard singled home two more in the sixth and added a two-run hit in the eighth.

Eric Daubach (SR/Omaha, Neb.) went 3-for-3 with three doubles, three runs and four RBIs. Joe Orisek (SR/Yorkville, Ill.) had two hits, including a solo home run, and scored four times. John Tesensky (SR/Watertown, Wis.) and Josh Dimmitt (SR/Fairfield, Iowa) chipped in two hits apiece.

Hartman allowed three earned runs and fanned five over seven innings. Tyler Samson (SR/Peosta, Iowa) worked the eighth, striking out a pair.

In Game 2, the Rams unlocked a 2-2 score with a pair of long balls from unlikely sources in the sixth inning. First baseman Ryan Voight (SR/Beach Park, Ill.), making his second start of the season, led off the frame with a solo homer to left. One out later, Jacob Kvale (SR/Decorah, Iowa) deposited a pitch over the left-field fence to make it 4-2.

They were the first career home runs for both Cornell seniors.

The Rams added a run in the seventh and plated two more in the eighth on RBI hits by Rausch and Breard to complete the scoring.

Breard tallied three hits in the game to cap a fantastic afternoon at the plate. Daubach, Rausch, Tesensky and Voight also had multi-hit games. Rausch and Tesensky both drove in a pair.

Wichman tossed three-hit ball over six innings. Ram relievers Alex McGuire (SO/Brookfield, Wis.), Duncan Villhauer (SR/Iowa City, Iowa) and Spencer Peterman (SR/Fairfield, Iowa) held the Pioneers to one run and three hits over the final three innings.
