MADISON, Wis. - The Cornell men's tennis dual season came to an abrupt end Friday morning, with the second-seeded Rams losing 5-1 to Lake Forest in the semifinals of the Midwest Conference Team Tournament at Nielsen Tennis Center.

Cornell ended the year 17-11 overall, breaking the school record for most wins in a season.

The Rams claimed the first match of the day as the No. 3 doubles pairing of Aditya Goyal (FR/Cupertino, Calif.)/Hayden Dzurisin (FR/Crystal Lake, Ill.) earned an 8-4 triumph. The other two doubles matches were tight, but Cornell just could not quite get over the hump. Both the No. 1 doubles team of Gabe Souza/Shoma Kishimoto (FR/Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) and the No. 2 duo of Tucker Barnes (JR/Flower Mound, Texas)/Nick Van Den Handel (SO/Highland Village, Texas) dropped their respective matches by an identical 8-4 score.

As the match moved to singles, the momentum did not shift at all and Lake Forest got the three singles matches they needed to advance.

No. 2 Dzurisin fought hard in his second set making it tight, but dropped the match 6-1, 6-4. No. 3 Kishimoto could not avenge his doubles match, falling 6-1, 6-2. The clinching match for Lake Forest came at No. 5 as Tucker Barnes came close to coming back from a 4-1 second set deficit, eventually losing 6-4, 6-4.

There were bright spots for the Rams as No. 1 Souza took on the defending MWC No. 1 singles champion Dan Pivonka and was in a third set after a 6-0, 2-6 first two set score. Both No. 4 Goyal and No. 6 Van Den Handel dropped their first sets, but were on serve in their second sets.

This match marks the last match for 4-year coach Carolina Hannes. She leaves Cornell men's tennis with 51 dual wins.

Coming up – The Rams continue action at University of Wisconsin-Madison as they compete in the MWC Singles Championships on Saturday morning. Action starts at 8 a.m. at Nielson Tennis Center.
