Rams finish regular season in dominating fashion

Cornell ended the regular season Sunday by defeating Illinois College in a dominant 8-1 match.

With the Rams win, they move to 17-10 on the year and lock up the No. 2 seed at the conference tournament going 7-1 in conference.

The day started with doubles for Cornell, and they took care of business, taking all three doubles matches. Doubles was highlighted by the No. 1 duo of Gabriel Souza (SO/Teresopolis, Brazil)/Shoma Kishimoto (FR/Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) and the No. 3 tandem of Tom Greene (SO/Freeport, Ill.)/Alex Rand (SO/Des Moines, Iowa) winning their respective matches 8-1. Doubles was finished in dominant fashion with an 8-2 win at No. 2 from Hayden Dzurisin (FR/Crystal Lake, Ill.)/Aditya Goyal (FR/Cupertino, Calif.).

As the match shifted to singles, the momentum stayed exactly the same as the Rams took five of the six singles matches.

No. 2 Dzurisin and No. 5 Hiro Harada (SR/Ninomiya, Japan) led the charge for Cornell, both cruising to 6-0, 6-0 victories. No. 3 Goyal and No. 6 Rand also had smooth matches, winning 6-0, 6-1. The last win came from the No. 1 singles spot as Souza earned a hard fought 6-3, 6-2 victory.

Coming up – The Rams head to postseason play in Madison, Wisconsin to take on No. 3 seeded Lake Forest in the semi-finals of the Midwest Conference team tournament on Friday, April 28th.
