MOUNT VERNON – Cornell decorated thrower Charles Zilaitis (SR/Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.) raked in yet another award Tuesday as the Midwest Conference Men's Field Performer of the Week for the period ending April 16.
Zilaitis earned his fifth MWC weekly award of 2017, and the 11th of his career.
Zilaitis swept three throwing events at the Loras Easter Midweek April 12 in Dubuque. He was notches ahead of the competition in all three, winning titles in the shot put (54-4.75), discus (146-7) and hammer throw (179-6).
The Ram senior beat the shot put runner-up by nearly 10 feet. He was only 3.5 inches shy of his top mark of the season, which ranks No. 8 nationally.
Zilaitis recorded a 24-foot victory in the hammer – where he stands No. 5 nationally – and won the discus with more than four feet to spare. He has collected five event victories in three meets this outdoor season.
Zilaitis and the Rams are next in action Friday at the University of Dubuque Invitational.
