Cornell fends off Panthers late push

MOUNT VERNON The Cornell men's lacrosse team secured a 14-13 victory in their final game at Ash Park Stadium this season, defeating Hanover College Saturday afternoon.

In the fourth quarter the Rams (7-6 overall, 3-3 MLC) took the biggest lead of the game for either team after Michael Paquette (JR/Erie, Colo.) scored with 9:30 remaining making it 14-9. The Panthers (2-10 overall, 1-3 ORLC) didn't go out quietly. Brock Warner account for the game's next four goals shrinking the Rams lead to one, but Cornell was able to run out the remaining time for the win.

On the day seven Rams scored, led by Braedon Geraghty (SO/Maple Grove, Minn.) and A.J. Fisher (JR/Elgin, Ill.), who had four and three goals respectively. For the season that puts Geraghty at 29 and Fisher at 33.

Paquette and Brendan Langmack (FR/Olathe, Kan.) each tossed in two goals for the home team.

Carlos Siguenza (JR/Minneapolis, Minn.) turned in another solid all-around day; scoring one goal, tossing three assists, scooping up ten ground balls, and winning 17-of-26 faceoffs.

Tory Terbilcox (JR/Waunakee, Wis.) led the defensive effort with two caused turnovers, and two ground balls. The junior's highlight on the day was going the distance of the field and scoring his first goal of the season early in the third quarter.  

Cornell ended with 20 more shots than the Panthers, and completed seven more clears. Both teams took advantage of the game's 12 penalties, cashing in on four each.

Evan Kedjidjian (JR/Deerfield, Ill.) (6-6) went the distance for the Rams in net, stopping 11 shots and scooping up two ground balls.

Coming up – The Rams currently sit tied for fourth in the conference with the top four teams advancing to the conference tournament. They face off against MSOE (5-7 overall, 3-3 MLC) on April 22, in Milwaukee at 4:00 p.m.
