MOUNT VERNON – Cornell senior Tyrus Hartman (SR/Lanark, Ill.) has been selected Midwest Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the period ending March 19.
Hartman tossed a complete-game two-hitter in Cornell's 6-1 victory over Central March 13 in Lakeland, Fla. The 6-foot-4 right-hander was dominant from the start, striking out nine and not issuing a single walk.
Hartman faced only four batters over the minimum for the seven-inning contest. He retired 12 of the final 14 hitters he faced.
Hartman is 1-1 on the season with 12 strikeouts in 9.0 innings pitched.
The Rams (2-6 overall) finished 2-4 during a competitive spring break trip in Florida. They'll face two more top-tier foes this week, visiting 20th-ranked Augustana (12-1) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by single home games Saturday and Sunday against eighth-ranked UW-La Crosse (6-3), both at Ash Park Field.
