MOUNT VERNON – Midwest Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Year Diamond Boyd (SR/Elk Grove Village, Ill.) has been selected to the 2017 All-Central Region Second Team by D3hoops.com.
Cornell's athletic senior forward was among five players chosen to the region's second unit. Boyd was the only MWC player voted to one of the three all-region teams.
Boyd put herself on a short list with Taylor Dicus (third team, 2015) and Camille Marie (first team, 2013) as all-region honorees in Cornell women's basketball history.
Boyd, a first team all-region outside hitter this past fall, became the first Ram ever to earn all-region accolades in both volleyball and basketball.
The 5-foot-10 Boyd averaged 14.6 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.1 steals for Coach Brent Brase's 20-5 Rams, who captured their third MWC regular-season championship in five years. Boyd turned in a league-high 11 double-doubles and shot 48.2 percent from the field.
Boyd, a two-time first team all-MWC performer, hit 73-of-110 free throw attempts and also led the team with 78 steals, five shy of the school record she set in 2015-16. She collected 44 assists and 20 blocked shots.
Boyd climbed into Cornell's career top-10 in eight statistical categories. Among the superlatives, Boyd totaled 191 steals (third all-time), 172 made free throws (eighth), 556 rebounds (ninth) and 892 points (10th) in only three seasons on the Hilltop.
Boyd guided the Rams to a 17-1 MWC regular-season record and a trip to the MWC Tournament title game for the third consecutive year.
