ORLANDO, Fla. – Cornell's women's tennis team capped a successful spring break trip Wednesday with a 5-4 victory over Dickinson.
The Rams split two duals on Tuesday, winning 6-3 over a strong St. Scholastica squad (8-2) before getting edged by Ohio Wesleyan, 5-4.
Cornell finished 4-2 in Florida and improved its season record to 16-5 with three meets remaining before the Midwest Conference Tournament April 27.
Julia Thome (JR/Crystal Lake, Ill.) raised her glossy singles record to 22-4 with Wednesday's hard-fought 1-6, 7-6, 10-7 victory at the No. 1 position against Dickinson. Gabriella Ferro (JR/Kansas City, Mo.) and Anne Seng (SR/Saint Paul, Minn.) won their singles matches in straight sets. Cornell received doubles wins at No. 1 (Thome-Shashanna Moll (SR/Belfast, Maine)) and No. 3 (Raquel Ruiz (FR/Round Lake, Ill.)-Abbey Nelson (FR/Glen Ellyn, Ill.)).
The Rams got singles wins against St. Scholastica from Thome, Moll, Ferro and Anne Seng. Thome outlasted her opponent in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 10-4. Cornell's doubles teams of Thome-Moll and Nelson-Ruiz were also victorious.
Cornell held a 2-1 lead after doubles play against Ohio Wesleyan (7-2). Thome-Moll and Ruiz-Nelson both scored 8-5 victories. In singles, Thome and Seng recorded straight-set wins.
Coming up – Cornell travels to play Central March 25 at 2 p.m. in Pella.
