GRINNELL – Senior standout Charles Zilaitis (SR/Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.) made it a clean sweep in the throwing circle for the fourth consecutive meet, headlining Cornell's performances at Saturday's Darren Young Invitational hosted by Grinnell.

Zilaitis was again the class of the men's throwing events in a competitive 11-team meet, which saw the Rams place sixth with 44 points. Zilaitis earned convincing wins in the shot put and weight throw, events in which he's already established top-10 NCAA marks.

Zilaitis took first out of 22 throwers in the shot put with a mark of 53-3. He beat the runner-up by more than three feet. Zilaitis threw the weight 57-3.75 for another wide victory margin of nearly two feet.  

Husani Newbold (JR/Freeport, Grand Bahama) qualified for the finals in the men's 60-meter dash. He finished fourth out of 39 participants in 7.10.

Cuyler Gabriel (SO/Santa Barbara, Calif.) took fifth in the mile (4:27.84). The Rams had two point-scorers in the 3000 with Caleb Wilson (SO/Madison, Wis.) (fifth, 9:03.06) and Mason Wicker (SO/Baldwin, Wis.) (seventh, 9:04.43).

In the men's long jump, Caleb Rewinkel (FR/Carbondale, Colo.) finished fifth (20-7.25) and Blake MacDowall (JR/Phoenix, Ariz.) sixth (20-3). Zach McNanna (FR/Hinckley, Ill.) was eighth in the triple jump (40-4.25).

The Rams scored 33 points in the women's division and wound up seventh out of 10 teams.

Rachel Moline (SR/Louisville, Colo.) was Cornell's top individual finisher, taking third in the 5000 (17:42.41) with a time that ranks 27th nationally. Sydney Strunk (SR/Ottumwa, Iowa) anchored the third-place 4x200 relay in 1:52.79. The group included Zaria Lambert (FR/Davenport, Iowa), Nikki Leach (SR/Landenberg, Pa.) and Maya Lamson (FR/Baltimore, Md.).

Leach finished fifth in the 60 hurdles (9.69), while MariKate Murphy (JR/Kirklin, Ind.) was fifth in the 3000 (10:56.97). Cornell got sixth-place efforts from Lily Niswonger (JR/St. Louis, Mo.) (800, 2:28.04), Libby Schnoor (JR/Camanche, Iowa) (long jump, 15-9.75) and Octavia Martinez (SO/Fruita, Colo.) (weight throw, 44-2.50).

Coming up – The Rams compete at the Spartan Invitational Friday, hosted by the University of Dubuque. Action gets underway at 4 p.m.
