MOUNT VERNON – Their backs against the wall just a week ago, the Rams now find themselves riding a three-game winning streak and very much in the mix for a postseason berth.

Corey Davis (JR/Glendale Heights, Ill.) and Jon Anderson (JR/Mexico, Mo.) posted double-doubles for the second straight game and Brad Hund (JR/Joliet, Ill.) netted a season-high 21 points to lift Cornell to a 73-62 men's basketball win over Monmouth Wednesday night inside the Small Multi-Sport Center.

The Rams (9-11 overall, 8-7 Midwest Conference) moved within a game of fourth-place Lawrence (9-6 MWC) with three road contests remaining. The top four teams qualify for the MWC Tournament.

Cornell can help its tournament hopes Saturday in a 5 p.m. matchup at third-place Lake Forest (12-8 overall, 10-5 MWC), a team the Rams beat 65-63 in early December.

Davis became Cornell's new record holder for assists in a season after dishing out 10 against the Fighting Scots (6-14 overall, 6-9 MWC). The junior point guard broke Tim Maaske's long-standing mark of 147, set during the 1975-76 season. Davis has totaled 148 assists – ranking 10th nationally – through 20 games.

Davis added 14 points, six rebounds and five steals to his record-setting night.

Jon Anderson was huge on the glass with a career-best 18 rebounds, one shy of the program's single-game record. The 6-foot-7 junior also had 12 points and three blocked shots.

Hund made 8-of-10 field goals in his best offensive outing of the season. Grant Anderson (SR/Homewood, Ill.) and Craig Engle (SO/Marion, Iowa) also reached double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Rams enjoyed a strong 50.9-percent shooting night from the field and improved to 7-2 in MWC home games.

Cornell pulled away down the stretch after the Scots got within 42-41 with 10:51 remaining. The Rams scored the next eight points – highlighted by a dunk from Jon Anderson – and later used another 8-0 run to put Monmouth away.

Will Jones paced the Scots with 22 points. Lamont Mitchell had 19 points and 10 rebounds.
