GALESBURG, Ill. – Cornell claimed its first true road win of the season, and did so in convincing fashion with a 73-43 men's basketball decision over Midwest Conference foe Knox Saturday in Memorial Gym.
The Rams (5-6 overall, 3-3 MWC) shot 54.2 percent from the floor and had all five starters score in double figures to get back to the .500 mark in conference play.
Cornell led virtually the entire way and built a 39-25 cushion at intermission. The Rams put the game on ice with an 18-2 spurt to start the second half, expanding the lead to 30 points.
Corey Davis (JR/Glendale Heights, Ill.) scored seven points during the game-breaking run and finished with 13, to go along with six assists and five steals, both game-highs.
Grant Anderson (SR/Homewood, Ill.) led all scorers with 19 points – all in the first half -- while going 3-for-3 from 3-point range. He also grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.
Cornell beat Knox on the boards, 34-24, and held the Prairie Fire (1-10 overall, 1-5 MWC) to 35.4-percent shooting. The home team made just 3-of-17 attempts from long range.
The Rams outscored Knox by 10 points from the foul line, hitting 16-of-19 free throws. Saturday marked the fifth time this season in which Cornell shot at least 50 percent from the field.
Coming up – The Rams are on the road next weekend for a pair of league games in Wisconsin. They play Lawrence (4-6, 4-2 MWC) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, followed by a 3 p.m. contest Saturday, Jan. 14, against MWC co-leader Ripon (10-1, 6-0 MWC).
