MOUNT VERNON – The Rams swept this week's Midwest Conference volleyball awards, just as they've swept every league foe on the court this season.
Senior outside hitter Kathleen O'Connor (offense) and junior libero Kylea Weber (defense) were recognized as MWC Performers of the Week at their respective positions for the period ending Oct. 27. This is the fourth conference honor this season for Weber, the third for O'Connor.
O'Connor and Weber led the 22nd-ranked Rams (23-3 overall, 9-0 MWC) to their second consecutive conference regular-season title with home sweeps over Ripon (25-10, 25-17, 25-23) and Carroll (25-23, 25-23, 25-15). Cornell extended its overall winning streak to 11 matches.
O'Connor, of Waukegan, Ill., hit .275 with 34 kills (5.67 kps) in the two matches. She averaged 2.5 digs and 0.67 blocks per set. O'Connor pounded 18 kills in Saturday's title-clinching win over Carroll.
O'Connor is among the Division III national leaders in points per set (4.94, 11th) and kills per set (4.08, 19th). She heads the MWC in both categories, while also ranking fourth in the league in service aces (0.40 aps), seventh in hitting percentage (.258) and ninth in digs (3.8 dps).
Weber, of Mount Vernon, had a stellar weekend on the defensive end with 46 total digs (7.67 dps). She became the second player in school history to top 1,700 career digs, currently with 1,737. Weber did not commit a single reception error on 35 attempts. She was 28-of-30 serving with one ace.
Weber stands ninth nationally in digs at 6.01 per set. She is 10th in the MWC in service aces (0.34 aps).
The Rams conclude MWC regular-season play Wednesday at Grinnell (3-24, 3-6 MWC). First serve is 7 p.m.
