MOUNT VERNON – Cornell made it a clean sweep Monday as quarterback Juan Flores (offense), linebacker Geoffrey Miller (defense) and kicker Kaleb Whiting (special teams) were named Midwest Conference Football Performers of the Week at their respective positions for games on Oct. 19.
The Rams are the first team this season to take all three conference football awards in the same week.
The trio played key roles in Saturday's 45-14 victory at Knox, moving the Rams to 4-2 overall, 4-1 in the MWC. Cornell broke open a tight game with 24 unanswered points in the second half.
Flores, a senior from Alta Loma, Calif., set a single-game school record for completion percentage (95.0) on 19-of-20 passing. He threw for 174 yards with one touchdown, while running for another 64 yards and four touchdowns.
Flores led a Ram offense that totaled 408 yards and scored on four of its first five possessions of the second half. On the year, Flores has completed 71.1 percent of his passes for 1,347 yards and eight touchdowns. He has rushed for 288 yards and seven scores.
Miller, a senior from Honolulu, Hawaii, had a team-high 14 tackles (9 solo) for a defense that came away with six turnovers and limited Knox to 222 yards. Miller collected three tackles for loss, one sack and a forced fumble.
Miller ranks second in the MWC at 11.0 tackles per game. He leads the team with 66 total tackles, including seven for losses, through six games.
Whiting, a freshman from Arvada, Colo., contributed nine points Saturday, hitting all six PAT kicks along with a 37-yard field that gave Cornell a two-possession lead in the third quarter. He averaged 55.5 yards on eight kickoffs.
Whiting leads all MWC kickers with 39 points on the year. He is 24-of-26 on PATs and 5-of-9 on field goals. All five of his field goal makes have been beyond 30 yards.
The Rams play host to Lake Forest (6-1, 5-1 MWC) Saturday in a big MWC matchup at 1 p.m. at Ash Park Stadium.
